A Website Trip // Let's Evaluate and See Pros & Cons

  ❓I have a question for you everyone!

•  Have you ever evaluated a website? Or do you guys know how to evaluate a website properly and to be able to use the website accordingly, by harmonizing it to your aim? 

   If you haven't done that kind of project before, no worries.👍😃 Today, I am going to share my findings about the website that I've evaluated and going to inform you about it as well.

   ✔At first, I want to share the website's name and its attached link.

           🔍 iSLCOLLECTIVE 

  🔖The aim of this site is to share Free ESL Materials and Resources for teaching English as a foreign language. (Also, this site has exercises in other languages as well, like German/ French/ Spanish.. But, we are going to focus on English part.)  

  🔖As it can be understood actually, its target audiences are both students and ELT Teachers.

  

 Now, I am going to examine the website under the titles in deep.

📍Who authored the website? Is there any information about their qualifications or credentials? 

 Actually, there is a community of language teachers who authored the site. 

 The founders of the site are;

• Peter Laszlo
• Adam Laszlo
• Benedek Princz

📍What is the content of the website?

 The content of the site is to share free ESL teaching materials and collaborate as language teachers in the field of ELT.

📍Who is the target audience? 

  The target audiences are both students and ELT Teachers.

📍What is the purpose of the website? 

 The purpose of the website is to share ELT Materials that can be beneficial for the lesson flow. Additively, with the help of UPLOAD section, everyone can share their materials freely.

 📍Is there a date that shows when the site has last been updated?

  Because of the fact that this site is a site which is authored by the community of teachers, there is no accurate dates about the last activity of the site. However, we can say that the site is an active site,because of the fact that we are able to see when the materials were updated. 

 📍Accuracy of the information- Are there any errors? 

 Actually, below the projects, there are task information parts. But, of course not always everyone fills this part in detail.

   As far as I've searched, I didn't face with any broken links.

 📍Are the images of high quality and appealing to the target audience?

   Yes, and actually in the site everything is pretty simple. You can select the material that you need either a printable one or a project-able one. In the information parts under the projects or files, there are detailed instructions about the appropriateness of the material according to the proficiency levels and the teachers' aims.

📍How can it be applied to EFL teaching? 

  Actually, the site was originally created for helping the foreign language teachers in the field of supporting the lesson with related materials. Thus, the site has so many categories and subjects in it. A teacher can open a video lesson and can teach the prepositions through it or a student can login and do the materials that given by the teacher. The only thing you have to do is to sign or log in freely and download/ print / open the materials. Plus, every material focuses on different subjects and the development of different skills (Reading/ Writing/ Speaking/ Listening). Here, there are some activities that I've chosen from the site as examples. 

       To conclude, with the developing technology the Internet is accessible in everywhere. When we need a help, the websites are the ones which help us immediately. But, how can we trust every word that they are saying? Actually, we cannot. So, this is the reason why we should evaluate the sites that we use for the right information or materials. For instance, you shouldn't play "It's a Beautiful Day" song with the high-school students. Because, it is so easy for a junior and that can lead them into show off-task behaviors. That's the reason why we should give a focus on the information parts under the materials and prepare our lesson plans accordingly.
     Without thinking or considering, if we take something on faith and use it in our classrooms, it is so possible for us to fail in front of our students. Because, do not forget that "Our students are the real bosses of the Internet and they have born in the Internet era." Thus, they will find out easily whether you are giving the right information or not.
